Alternative Village Fete Regional Tour 2011
Home Live Art's yearly 'anarchic jamboree' has been on tour for 2011, with Joule production managing their unique twist on the traditional fete. Located at the distinguished National Theatre, Brighton's Old Steine Gardens and the National Trust's Tattershall Castle, events for 2011 have included performances and live art, a variety of artists installations and participatory projects.
The event at the stunning medieval Tattershall Castle this October brought an unusual audience together, including National Trust supporters and biker culture fans, featuring anarchic hillbilly barn dancing collective Cut A Shine, an installation of sculptures by Joe Rush (Mutoid Waste Company), a biker beauty contest, Steam Punk's corsetry demos, heavy metal face painting, and the usual AVF mix of participatory artists' installations, workshops and quirky stalls. Among other things Joule managed the venue relationship, ensuring the seamless delivery of a new and untraditional event on an old and traditional National Trust property.
With a nocturnal edge, this Brighton city-centre fete was part of the all night city wide White Night festival, transforming Old Steine Gardens and featuring big top performances, deco tea rooms, swing dancing, pop video routines, midnight rituals, ghouls and vamps, vintage glamour makeovers, outlandish pop stars and food-flinging Olympics!
'The Alternative Village Fete skilfully brings together some of the most interesting and accessible live art & performance with innovative craft, quirky stalls and participatory activities to create an extraordinary afternoon of enjoyable new experiences for young and old alike'
Lois Keidan, Director of Live Art Development Agency
