The East Commonwealth Games at the East Festival 2010

The East Commonwealth Games at the East Festival 2010

East is an annual festival, led by the Mayor of London, that celebrates the uniquely rich creative mix of East London. East 2010 took place over six days in March

Joule provided production management and event staff for The East Commonwealth Games an event which celebrated East London's links to the Asian sub-continent and its local Asian communities, its international heritage through a rich history of immigration into the area and its links to international sporting events.

The Games began with an opening ceremony featuring the Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band, Indian dancers, 50 Rajasthani musicians, dhol drunmmers and Spitalfields' Routemaster bus. The Games then offered the opportunity to watch tournaments of and try out games from the region including bicycle polo, carrom and kabaddi (a 4,000 year old Indian sport- something like a cross between wrestling and rugby!), and closed with a special performance by musician / composer Lola Perrin of her piece 'The Sea of Names' with guest narrator Mahir Bose, (former BBC Sports Editor).
