Shoreditch Festival 2004 - 2009

The main stage at Shoreditch Festival

Joule’s successful partnership with Shoreditch Festival dates back to the festival’s first year in 2004, and has helped fulfil its aim to make people feel proud about where they live and celebrate Shoreditch with its neighbours. The role of Joule has encompassed overall festival management, production management, programming the main music stage (by Jon Tyrrell), and delivering and facilitating 100s of participatory events for and by the community.

Now an annual highlight of the east end of London’s cultural calendar, and part of Create – a celebration of art, culture, festivals and performance in the 5 host boroughs for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Shoreditch Festival has an impressive record in delivering high quality performances and imaginative initiatives, which are bold, creative and engaging. Highlights have included fireworks and free concerts by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (07/08/09), an annual carnival parade around Shoreditch leading into mass celebratory events packed with community participation and professional performances in Shoreditch Park; Shoreditch Africa (05/06); and Bob and Roberta Smith’s public art project (06).

In both 2008 and 2009 the Festival won National Regeneration Awards.
